by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Class 4A Division 1 District 7 has officially become the craziest district in Kansas. Tonight, Rose Hill upset Mulvane 28-22.What does that mean? Wellington can now win this district with a victory in Ulysses. It can make the playoffs provided it loses by 10 points or less.Mulvane and Rose Hill played on a Thursday. The Rockets would win to improve to 1-2. Mulvane would fall to 1-2. This means if Wellington wins over Ulysses that would put the Crusaders at 2-1 tied with the Tigers at 2-1. But that would give Wellington the tiebreaker because it would have the head-to-head victory over Ulysses. If Wellington loses, it can get the district runner-up provided it is not a blowout. It has to lose by 10 points or less. If it loses by 11 points or more, then Mulvane goes.Kansas district play is set up in such a weird way that Rose Hill was leading with less than two minutes to play 28-15. Normally, the Rockets would just take a knee. But the Rockets were at -33 points and had to a 20+ victory over Mulvane. Instead they were sacked three times, Mulvane got the ball at midfield and would score with 45 seconds to go on a 40-yard pass play.So that ended Rose Hill’s chances of the playoffs.Wellington has extra incentive Friday night. If it can win district it can get the first round playoff game at home and avoid a trip on the road against a mammoth opponent from District 8.Sumner Newscow will have live tweets from Ulysses.Go Crusaders! The following are the updated District points: Close Forgot password?
