Woodlawn Croquet Court Now Open for the Season

Woodlawn Museum is located on the Surry Road, (Route 172) a quarter mile from downtown Ellsworth.A free beginners` course will be offered on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the croquet lawn. A follow-up course will be held for those taking the beginners’ course on Saturday, May 23 and the cost is $10 to help cover materials and court maintenance.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textA second free beginners’ course will be offered on Saturday, May 30, with the follow-up course on June 6.Croquet players are asked to wear soft soled shoes, sandals, or athletic footwear.The public is also invited to get acquainted with the court and the six-wicket croquet game every Tuesday, beginning on May 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. when guided golf croquet will be available to all for a $5 fee.Woodlawn Croquet also is sponsoring three tournaments this year and the public is invited to attend and watch high level six- and nine-wicket croquet.The second annual Maine/New Hampshire Six-wicket Tournament will be held at Woodlawn June 24-28.The second annual Lobster Roll-off Nine-wicket Tournament will be held at Woodlawn July 17-19.The premier Big Lobster Six- and Nine-wicket Tournament, with players from all over the United States and Canada competing, will be held Sept. 9-12.To learn about the croquet program, including member rates and a complete season schedule, visit woodlawnmuseum.org or call Joshua Torrance, executive director, at 207-667-8671, or Perry Mattson, chairman of the croquet committee, at 207-667-9335.
