GIRLS’ TENNIS MISSION Chaminade 11, Notre Dame 7: Chaminade of West Hills (6-1), looking to surpass last season’s second-place finish, opened league play with a victory at Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks (6-2). Chaminade’s No. 1 singles player, senior Kate Carnahan, improved her individual record to 14-2 with a 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 sweep. GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL HERITAGE Hillcrest Christian/Granada Hills 3, Santa Clarita Christian 1: Junior Jackie Habashy and senior captain Cyndi Taylor led Hillrest Christian of Granada Hills past visiting Santa Clarita Christian 25-16, 18-25, 25-20 and 26-24. Habashy finished with 18 kills and Taylor added nine for Hillcrest Christian (4-2, 2-0). MISSION Notre Dame 3, Chaminade 0:: Senior outside hitter Nikki Candela contributed 15 kills, 10 digs and five aces to lead Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks to a 25-11, 25-23, 25-4 sweep of visiting Chaminade of West Hills in a league opener. Outside hitter Meghan Moss added 13 digs for the Knights (10-1). WESTSIDE West Valley Christian 3, Hillcrest Christian 0: West Valley Christian of West Hills (6-2, 2-0), led by Jami Barstad’s 18 assists and five aces, defeated Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills 25-11, 25-8, 25-13. BOYS’ WATER POLO Loyola 9, Alemany 8: Loyola of Los Angeles (6-5) edged Alemany of Mission Hills (12-7) in a Mission League opener after a controversial call sidelined Alemany’s Alejandro Mirinelli for much of the game. Mirinelli was ejected for allegedly retaliating after taking a shot to the neck during play, and Alemany was unable to substitute because of the nature of the offense. Forrest Monroe led the Cubs with four goals, and Kevin Koone added three.
