Aklan eyes COVID-19 testing machine

first_img Results from the PCR testing by trained personnel could be ready within just a day. According to Gov. Florencio Miraflores, obtaining a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine will test faster the samples of the coronavirus disease 2019 patients in Aklan. He added that he already discussed the plan with Department of Health Region 6 director Dr. Marlyn Convocar and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. BOY RYANZ ZABAL/PN Currently, the samples taken from PUIs admitted in the Aklan provincial hospital in this capital town were brought to the DOH Regional Office and then to the RITM for testing. Gov. Florencio Miraflores said that they are working on the plans of obtaining a testing machine with the help of Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 director Dr. Marlyn Convocar and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa. Miraflores added that they will prioritize persons under investigation (PUIs) manifesting severe symptoms as well as medical frontliner personnel in Aklan in the testing for the COVID-19 infection.  Of the 28 PUIs, only two are in the said hospital, while the others are under home quarantine.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)center_img As this province closed its borders for the enhanced community quarantine on March 23, Miraflores said the procurement of PCR will cut short the processing of test samples by RITM and sub-national laboratories. In the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City, on the other hand, there are four PCR machines that are operating already screen samples for the COVID-19. Teen injured in Ripley County crash

first_imgMilan, Ind. — A Thursday crash near Milan on State Road 350 injured a Moores Hill teen.The Ripley County Sheriff’s Department says a car driven by Catherine Cigolotti, 16, of Moores Hill, was eastbound near Old Mill, at a high rate of speed when she lost control, drove off the south side of the roadway and struck a tree. The force of the crash ripped the engine from the vehicle and trapped the driver. First responders from the Milan Fire Department extricated the victim and transported her with injuries to her lower extremities.Police say wet conditions and excessive speed are contributing factors to the crash.last_img read more
